- A soil scientist mixes three compost types to achieve a target C:N ratio of 25:1. Compost A has a C:N of 30:1, Compost B is 20:1, and Compost C is 15:1. She uses 40 kg of A, 35 kg of B, and 25 kg of C. What is the weighted average C:N ratio of the final mixture?
- From A (40 kg at 30:1): C = \( \frac{30}{31} \times 40 \approx 38.71 \), N = \( \frac{1}{31} \times 40 \approx 1.29 \)
- From B (35 kg at 20:1): C = \( \frac{20}{21} \times 35 \approx 33.33 \), N = \( \frac{1}{21} \times 35 \approx 1.67 \)
- From C (25
